About me
I'm Michelle Moffatt — founder of Earth & Origin and an independent consultant working at the intersection of nature, place, and community.
My background spans fifteen years in research, evaluation, bid writing and project development across the charity, public, and international development sectors, combined with training in interior design and a long-standing interest in how the built and natural environment shapes human experience. I've spent my career helping organisations develop evidence-based programmes, secure funding, and demonstrate impact — and increasingly, that work has converged on a single question: how do we design spaces and programmes that genuinely reconnect people with the natural world?
I set up Earth & Origin because I believe that question deserves serious, rigorous, evidence-based attention. Through Earth & Origin I write about nature-connected design, sustainable and regenerative materials, and the systems — economic, cultural, and industrial — that shape what our interiors look like and what they do to the people and ecosystems around them. I draw on environmental psychology, biophilic design research, post-growth economics, and material culture to build a framework for what genuinely nature-first spaces look like in practice.
Alongside Earth & Origin, I work as an independent consultant supporting charities, social enterprises, statutory organisations and businesses to develop programmes that connect people and places with nature — and to fund, deliver, and evaluate them well.
Looking ahead
Earth & Origin is growing into a fuller platform — a directory of makers, designers, and organisations working to genuine nature-first standards, CPD for design professionals, nature connection experiences for organisations and communities, and deeper resources for anyone designing spaces or programmes which connect people with nature.
